The Flowers

Alive with blooms, the hillside where the farm is located overlooking the Pacific Ocean is one of the most spectacular and coordinated displays of natural color and beauty anywhere in the world. The Flower Fields farm is the home of the Tecolote® Giant Ranunculus, also known as the Persian buttercup or Ranunculus asiaticus. Incredibly colorful and beautiful, the ranunculus flower is native to Asia Minor and is a member of the Buttercup family.

The Flower Farm

The Flower Fields in Carlsbad, just north of San Diego, is owned by the Ecke family, known throughout the United States for its contributions to the floriculture industry and the commercial cultivation of the ponsettia.

The Flower Fields cover 50 acres of hillside overlooking the Pacific Ocean and is planted, farmed and harvested by Mellano & Company. Over 100,000 people tour The Flower Fields each year, but you’re invited to be one of just a handful of people who will get to experience a dinner in the middle of the farm.

Because of its spectacular views and array of blooms, The Flower Farm is the only farm The American Grown Field to Vase Dinner Tour has returned to over multiple years.

The Designer

Floral designer Rene Van Rems is an acclaimed ambassador to the floral industry and a friend to Certified American Grown, having been the featured designer last year at our sold-out dinner in Fallbrook, California.  He will bring his unique style to the Carlsbad tablescapes. A top speaker, educator and demonstrator who has led workshops and design shows in the U.S., Europe and Asia, Van Rems is also frequently featured at art museum events, including “Art Alive” in San Diego.  His work has been featured in Better Homes & Gardens, Sunset Magazine and on HGTV.

Beyond special events, van Rems regularly holds workshops at his state-of-the-art training center in Carlsbad, California. He will be leading one of these hands-on floral design workshops April 17 and 18 at The Flower Fields. The workshop is open to dinner guests and the public.  Register at paypal.me/renevanrems. Only 25 seats are available!
